Anexciting permanent position has arisen for a Band 6 Hepatology Nurse Specialist with this role focusing on Alcohol and Substance Misuse .This is a unique opportunity for personal and professional development enhancing knowledge and clinical skills both in the trust and the community in the arena of addiciton.
The Hepatology service in Newcastle Hospitals has been recently awarded IQILS accreditation in recognition of the excellent standard of care that patients receive and the continuous strive for excellence.
The successful candidatewill be part of a skilled team whoare passionate in this area whodeliver direct careto patients in the Acute Trust but also supporting and working alongside our community partners.
There will also be the opportunity expand your knowledge and skills with support for candidates to engage in the Clinical Skills programme and Non Medical Prescribing.
Main duties of the job
This role provides support to patients and their family and loved ones at an often distressing time . It involves the assessment , management and treatment of both alcohol and drug withdrawal, with highest priority given to safe care and liaising with out community partners . Acknowledgement must be given that this work encompasses a high level of both adult and children's safe-guarding.
An important part of the role is the provision of an education programme to staff across the organisation empowering them to support this expanding patient group and recognise signs and symptoms that further specialist support is needed. We are also involved in the student education programme and are also a Spoke Placement for 2nd and 3rd year students.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a nurse specialist as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients, carers and health professionals concerning a specific disease/condition.
Within the sphere of specialist practice:
Is working towards advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice.o Contributes to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.o Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.o Contributes to training and education within specialist area.
