The basis of the role will be to develop and maintain a therapeutic environment which supports the patient in making positive changes. As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will support and uphold a structured programme of treatment. The post holder will be expected to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the provision of best practice care and treatment for young people and adults who require inpatient treatment for an eating disorder. As a Support Worker at Riverdale, you will be expected to carry out the outlined duties whilst always respecting the individuals you work with and behaving in a professional manner.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team within either the Adolescent or Adult Wards. They will be responsible for delivering a high standard of care to patients and their families. The post holder will demonstrate empathic understanding, compassion and positive regard in maintaining the ethos of the ward and values of the hospital.

The service provides 24 hour care and applicants must be able to work flexible shift patterns across the year inclusive of weekends and Bank Holidays.

Job description

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To provide patients with the highest standard of care.
  • To promote good practice in the team in accordance with NICE guidelines and in line with all company policies and procedures.
  • To carry out tasks as described in the individual care plans and/or as instructed by the Ward Manager or Nurse in Charge.
  • To support and enable patients to maintain their physical, social and emotional wellbeing.
  • To undertake nasogastric feeding and restraint where necessary to support patients recovery
  • To provide physical health observations for patients where necessary to support patients health and recovery
  • To support the planning, delivery and development of group-based activities.
  • To work openly and collaboratively with patients and colleagues and the treat them with dignity and respect at all times.
  • To show flexibility and a positive approach as services change and develop.
  • To build positive, professional relationships with patients and other members of the team.
  • To support patients at mealtimes, supervise patients in the lounge after meals and snacks for the allocated time.
  • To undertake driving duties as necessary (if applicable).
  • To report immediately any concerns or significant events to the Nurse in Charge.
  • To assist staff in the admission of new patients.
  • To adopt a clean, tidy appearance at all times and wear appropriate clothing as per hospital policy.
  • To help and be courteous to all relatives and visitors, providing refreshments where required.
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably required in line with individual capabilities.
  • Promote the hospital in a positive light.

Teaching, Training & Supervision

  • To actively engage in monthly clinical supervision and managerial supervision.
  • To regularly attend staff meetings.
  • To actively engage in the appraisal process
  • To actively participate in your own personal and professional development.
  • Actively engage in formal and informal training opportunities to develop and maintain skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere to essential and statutory training requirements

Health & Safety

  • To report immediately to the Service Manager, Ward Manager or Nurse in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a patient, colleague, self or another.
  • Follow this up with the correct documentation/reporting procedure.

Policies & Procedures

  • Understand and adhere to the hospital policies, procedures and ensure that others also adhere to these.
  • Take personal responsibility for maintaining up to date knowledge and adhering to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Works within the hospitals Equality and Diversity framework.
  • Ensure that patient, and visitors understand the hospital policies and procedures as it affects them.
