Locum Consultant in Paediatric OrthopaedicsNHS
Job summary
This is the first advert for this 1-year locum consultant post, with a view to this becoming a substantive job in the near future. We are an established team of 4 consultants who work alongside specialist nurses and physiotherapists, clinical fellow with the only RCS-certified Paediatric Orthopaedic fellowship in the country, deanery and CESR trainees, and a nationally-renowned Gait Lab.
The service provides an elective Paediatric Orthopaedic service to the Oxford region, working closely with a multidisciplinary team, and developing the service further to support colleagues in regional hospitals across Thames Valley. We are looking for a colleague who can help us towards building this service further.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high quality secondary and tertiary paediatric orthopaedic service to the children and adolescents of Oxfordshire and Thames Valley, and neighbouring counties.
To support the multidisciplinary team, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings
To support and continue to develop clinical collaboration with other paediatric services in Oxford and Buckinghamshire, especially where this may impact on paediatric orthopaedic provision.
To develop further paediatric training in orthopaedics with support of Locally and Nationally appointed trainees and provide orthopaedic teaching for other undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
To comply with the recommendations of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, National GIRFT ('Getting it Right First Time') review of Paediatric Orthopaedics, and the Royal College of Surgeons for the provision of acute and specialty services for children.

There is a indicative timetable and job plan is outlined in the Job Description attached. The actual initial job plan will be negotiated and agreed with the Clinical Lead and Clinical Director upon appointment and may vary according to the successful candidates experience and the clinical needs of the department. The job plan will subsequently be reviewed and, where appropriate, renegotiated at least annually. It will be developed on an equitable basis, particularly in relation to patient-facing and flexible activities, access to theatre and clinic sessions, and the provision of cover for peripheral clinics.
