Job summary

NWSSP - Specialist Estates Services, based in Cardiff, is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Fire Safety Advisor to join our fire team, focused on supporting fire safety across the NHS estate in Wales.

As part of a small professional team, you will be responsible for supporting the Principal Fire Safety Advisor in the provision of advice and guidance to Welsh Government, Health Boards/Trusts of NHS Wales and other key stakeholders on fire safety related matters.

As a confident individual, to meet this opportunity, you will be degree qualified in a relevant subject such as fire engineering, fire management or building related context, and/or have equivalent demonstrable experience. Your high level of IT literacy must be complemented by good communication, team-working and presentation skills.

The post will be based in Cardiff or alternative regional NWSSP office (to be agreed), noting travel across the Principality will be required. NWSSP-SES operate agile working and flexi-time arrangements, and the successful candidate will also benefit from the opportunity of close personal support, mentoring and training through the Organisation's commitment to personal and professional development to help them achieve their personal career goals.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To support the Principal Fire Safety Engineer and Fire Safety Advisor across a wide range of fire safety issues in the NHS estate and, in particular:

  • implement Welsh Government (WG) directives, fire policy and strategies.
  • advise NHS Organisations on compliance with statutory legislation and mandatory requirements of Firecode and associated guidance
  • monitor NHS Organisations' performance in respect of fire safety regimes.
  • advise NHS Organisations on areas of improvement to safeguard the safety of patients, staff and the estate.
  • engage with health boards and other stakeholders to advise on progression of public or privately funded development schemes in relation to fire.
