Are you an experienced skilled Landscape Operative who can help make our public spaces are safe for all residents to access and enjoy?
Leicester is covered by a wealth of soft and hard open spaces that includes a range of parks, gardens, country parks, nature areas,168,000 individual trees and 111 hectares of woodlands, canal, and riverside, 260 play and outdoor gym facilities, sports facilities, highways, and housing green spaces totalling 1,250 hectares. It is widely recognised that quality open spaces contribute to residents’ quality of life and improve physical and mental health wellbeing, with parks in Leicester attracting around 6m visitors per annum.
Join our specialist Landscape Services as a landscape operative to ensure Leicester’s green infrastructure is free of barriers to access, by helping to maintain its horticultural features as well as hard landscape features including buildings
Primarily you’ll be based at Beaumont Park Depot within our Landscape Services section, however, you’ll be required to work on construction sites throughout Leicester working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday 07.30 – 15.30 pm.
What you’ll be doing
Supervise team members, temporary staff and sub-contractors as required by the Team Manager.
You’ll be working as part of a small team on a range of sites, including parks and green spaces, housing estates, the adopted highway, schools and community centres etc, for a range of clients both internal and external to Leicester City Council, e.g. installing new play areas, outdoor gyms, fencing and a range of hard surface features and establishing new grass areas, meadows and planting schemes. This will be using a range of equipment and hand tools daily and pesticides as required.
What you’ll need
Prior experience in landscape construction or construction industry, being able undertake the full range of landscape industry and horticulture related tasks. With a full understanding of health and safety regulations and regulations related to the industry.
You will be able to work outside in all weather conditions and able to lift and carry heavy machinery and stock items.
The ability to supervise the work from other team members with good interpersonal skills in the workplace
Able to undertake a range of manual and non- manual tasks relative to the operational area as required
Appointment to this role is subject to a full UK driving license check
