Job summary

2026 marks a significant milestone for Mastercall Healthcare as we celebrate 30 years of providing outstanding care to patients and communities across Greater Manchester and the North West. As we enter our next chapter, we are seeking exceptional individuals to join our Board and help shape the future of our organisation.

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the Board of a successful, member-led social enterprise at a pivotal point in its development.

As Chair, you will provide inspirational and inclusive leadership to the Board, ensuring strong governance, effective challenge and support for the Executive Leadership Team, whilst maintaining a relentless focus on patient care, organisational performance and long-termsustainability. You will play a key role in shaping strategy, strengthening partnerships and helping Mastercall navigate an evolving NHS landscape.

Remuneration: £30,000 to £35,000 per annum Time Commitment: Approximately one day per week Term: Three years, with potential for reappointment

Main duties of the job

The Chair provides inspirational, inclusive and values-based leadership to the Board of Mastercall Healthcare, fostering an open and high-performing culture in which constructive challenge, diversity of thought and collective responsibility support sound, timely decision-making.

Working in partnership with the Chief Executive, they will ensure the Board fulfils its legal, fiduciary and governance responsibilities; sets a clear long-term direction; oversees quality, organisational and commercial performance; and holds the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team to account for delivery.

Through influence rather than executive authority, the Chair will maintain a clear distinction between governance and management while developing relationships characterised by trust, candour, appropriate support and rigorous challenge.

As a guardian of Mastercalls patient purpose, social enterprise ethos and member-led identity, they will champion innovation, collaboration and social value while ensuring outstanding care, patient safety, financial sustainability and responsible stewardship. In doing so, the Chair will help Mastercall remain ambitious, agile and resilient, and strengthen its contribution to the future of neighbourhood health and urgent primary care.

A key part of this stewardship will be understanding and helping to shape Mastercalls role within the Greater Manchester Urgent Primary Care Alliance (GMUPCA), balancing the opportunities of deeper integration and delivery at scale with clear accountability for Mastercalls purpose, interests, identity and long-term sustainability.
