Post No. POSN004083 - Residential Child Care Worker

Be the steady adult a young person can rely on.

Some children need more from the world than they’ve been given so far. They need patience. They need reassurance. They need someone who shows up with kindness and consistency. If that sounds like you, you could make a real difference in our residential homes.

This role is about being there for young people on the days when things feel tough, and on the days when small wins feel huge. No two shifts look the same and that’s what many of our team value most.

As a Residential Childcare Worker, you’ll work across our homes, stepping in where you’re needed most. Our young people have varied needs, routines and personalities, so you’ll adapt and support them in ways that help them feel safe, understood and valued.

You’ll be part of a 24/7 service, so shifts include days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑ins. You’ll work alongside a supportive team who’ll help you find your rhythm and confidence.

Your work will include:

• Helping young people with daily routines and creating moments of fun, belonging and positive childhood experiences
• Supporting young people through co-regulation, helping them to build emotional resilience, confidence and independence
• Being a calm, emotionally attuned and reflective presence when young people experience distress, uncertainty or overwhelming emotions.
• Approaching children with curiosity, empathy and understanding, particularly when they are distressed or communicating through behaviour
• Joining in with activities, days out and opportunities to try new things
• Recording and reflecting on progress so every child’s voice is heard
• Engaging in reflective discussions to understand children's experiences, needs and progress.
• Contributing to a warm, welcoming home where young people feel they belong

You'll work in a trauma-informed, attachment-focused and therapeutic way, recognising that behaviour is communication and that healing happens through safe, trusting relationships.

Training and Development

You don’t need previous experience in residential care - what matters most is your attitude and your ability to connect with children and young people.

We’ll give you:

• A full induction to help you settle into the role
• Ongoing training delivered by experienced practitioners
• Support to achieve your Level 3 qualification in Working with Children and Young People (if you don’t already have it)
• Guidance and supervision to help you grow in confidence
• Some training takes place during weekdays, and attendance is essential to ensure we provide safe, consistent care.

What You’ll Bring

• A kind, grounded and reliable approach
• Emotional resilience
• Confidence and ability to advocate for children and young people while helping them develop their own voice and sense of agency
• Respect for each child’s story and experience
• A full driving licence
• Curiosity and a willingness to learn

Why Join Us?

Because your work will matter.
Because children remember the adults who made them feel safe.
Because you’ll be part of a team that supports one another as much as we support our young people.

You’ll also get:

• A generous pension contribution scheme
• 26 days annual leave
• Strong opportunities for growth, progression and development
• Staff Networks that support our diverse and inclusive culture

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you want to be part of a service where care, patience and human connection can change the course of a young person’s life, we’d love to hear from you.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
