Job summary
We are looking to expand our team with inspirational Associate Lecturers (ALs) who have a passion for delivering high-quality learning experiences along with substantial industry experience for an inspirational individual to join our medical ultrasound team as an Associate Lecturer (AL).
You must have relevant clinical experience in medical ultrasound, practicing as a Sonographer and be someone who can inspire, enthuse, and connect with our students and may be interested in combining this with your enthusiasm and ability to pass on your knowledge and experience by creating and delivering high-quality learning, teaching, and assessment.
You must have well developed and current knowledge and understanding of the critical, practical, and theoretical concepts of medical ultrasound practice and have had experience in clinical practice working as a Sonographer.
You must have good honours degree (i.e. UK 2.1 or 1st Class) in radiography or a relevant allied health profession or equivalent professional qualification, and a Post graduation Diploma (PgD) or MSc qualification in medical ultrasound.
Becoming an AL can be an excellent introduction to teaching in higher education. Some teaching experience would be an advantage; however, you may have well developed and current knowledge and understanding from an academic and/or professional perspectives.

Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Design and deliver, high quality and challenging learning experiences that equip students with the skills and knowledge required by employers.
Teach specifically identified subjects and topics related to a defined area of work.
Provide effective and efficient teaching to approved courses through lecture, seminar or tutorial modes of delivery.
Provide ongoing assessment and feedback to students by setting and marking coursework, assignments and examinations.
Contribute to the development of resource material.
Ensure that appropriate learning materials are prepared in advance of delivery and assignments are undertaken by students in a timely manner
Keep up to date with knowledge of your subject area.
Student Support
Develop a sense of purpose and harmonious working within assigned student groups.
Provide appropriate academic, technical and pastoral care by supporting the work of individual students and referring them where appropriate to relevant support staff.
Act, when required, as tutor to a group of students, providing effective academic, technical and pastoral care.
Teamwork and Communication
Work with colleagues in developing the provision within the faculty.
Work within a team to promote the development of curriculum practices of benefit to students and the University
Participate in appropriate quality assurance procedures of the faculty.
Make a positive contribution to the overall development of the department and faculty
Ensure the implementation of all University policies including those relevant to teaching, health and safety and quality assurance.
Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities.
Undertake administration and provide reports and statistics regarding student and teaching matters as required.
Attend faculty meetings as required.
Undertake and attend appropriate developmental activity such as appraisals and training as required.

Flexible - Hybrid working

The nature of this role means you will be able to work from home as required.
Selection event
Our selection event will take place on Friday 18th September 2026.
The selection event will include:
an interview
a microteaching session
We would like you to prepare and deliver a 10-minute micro teach on an ultrasound case study of your choice using a specific pathology.
This will be delivered to the panel and should be aimed at a level 7 post-registration student audience.
