Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Science Associate (Cardiology) Apprentice to rotate between the Clinical MeasurementsDepartment and the newly built community diagnostic centres, one located in Great Yarmouth and the other on the JPUH siteTo apply for an apprenticeship candidates must:

o be aged 16 or above

o not be enrolled on another apprenticeship, or another DfE funded FE/HE programme, at the same time as any new apprenticeship they start

o spend at least 50% of their working hours in England over the duration of the apprenticeship

o have the right to work in England

o be a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) (including other countries determined within the EEA or those with bilateral agreements), or have the right of abode in the UK, and have been ordinarily resident in the EEA (including other countries determined within the EEA or those with bilateral agreements)

o or a non-EEA citizen with permission from the UK government to live in the UK, (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of learning

Apprenticeship positions will require 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above, including English or Maths, please refer to specific qualifications required on the JD/PS. Equivalent qualifications are also accepted

Main duties of the job

To assist qualified Cardiac Physiologists in the delivery of the Clinical Measurements Service to a specified caseload of inpatients or outpatientsTo gain practical experience in healthcare science within cardiologyAfter a period of training and confirmed competency assessment to work under supervision within a specified clinical area undertaking tasks thatfall within the remit of the non-complex patient but within supervision of qualified staff

Successful candidates will develop ECG skills and support the ambulatory monitoring service, which includes the fitting and removal of ECG andblood pressures monitors as well as advancing their skills into ambulatory monitoring analysis.Salary will be based on levels of previous experience within a care environment. Successful candidates will undertake a level 4 apprenticeship over a 24 month period. An education and training provider will be allocated withthe course consisting of mandatory and optional credits. Supervision and support will be provided with one study day each week

If Permanent posts are available, will be offered on completion of the apprenticeship period.

Job description

This exciting role combines predominantly clinical responsibilities with a range of administrative duties, providing an excellent opportunity to develop a broad skill set within a supportive and friendly team environment.

Working under the direction and supervision of qualified staff, you will assist in the delivery of diagnostic investigations and contribute to the provision of high-quality patient care. Your duties will include:

• Performing electrocardiography (ECG) procedures.
• Fitting and analysing ambulatory cardiac monitoring equipment.
• Supporting the delivery of Exercise Stress Testing.
• Assisting in the diagnosis and assessment of patients as part of the wider Clinical Measurement team.
• Undertaking clerical and administrative tasks to support the efficient running of the department.
• Monitoring and maintaining stock levels and ensuring clinical areas are appropriately supplied.
• Communicating effectively with patients, relatives and carers to promote understanding, reassurance and cooperation throughout their care.
• Escalating and communicating relevant information to senior colleagues and members of the Clinical Measurement team as required.
• Undertaking routine cleaning, maintenance and safety checks of clinical measurement equipment in accordance with departmental procedures.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and professional clinical environment at all times.
