We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team at Bury St Edmunds inpatient mental health services, at Wedgwood House. The successful candidate will work alongside the band 7 AHP clinical team lead, Band 6 OTs, Band 5 OTs, Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA), Physiotherapists, Technical instructors, and Activity workers covering the 2 Adult Acute wards. Working closely with the Multi Disciplinary Team you will have opportunity to develop knowledge and skills within acute mental health. As part of the Wedgwood team there will be some cross ward working, with opportunity to gain experience on our older adult wards too.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to supervise an OTA and/or Activity Worker and to implement person centred OT interventions and promote the OT profession within this setting. The successful candidate will work under the supervision and guidance of an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to refine their skills and develop within this role. Alongside this, the trust offers a supportive preceptorship programme, and we welcome newly qualified members of staff.

Wedgwood house is a well established inpatient site, with extensive therapeutic spaces including a therapy garden, ADL kitchen, creative room, and a well-equipped gym.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to take a clinical role in the OT assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of services for clients.

Contribute to and participate in multi-disciplinary team assessments.

Be involved in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of person-centred care planning and person-centred formulations.

Provide a first line response to referrals, providing where necessary a health and social care needs assessment or meeting the needs already identified in a health and social care needs assessment.

You will have the opportunity to develop strong therapeutic relationships with our service users during their admission to hospital which will support your professional approach and guide your assessments and interventions in order to make admissions meaningful and purposeful. You will be given the opportunity to network and develop professional relationships with community teams and professionals to promote the recovery and discharge of our service users. You will also liaise with third sector services within the local community in order to signpost and engage our

service users in meaningful activities to promote their recovery when leaving hospital.
