Job summary

The Kitchen Porter/Stores Assistant is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the catering service by ensuring the cleaning, storage, distribution and service of food and catering equipment for patients, staff and visitors.

You will receive and store goods and provisions, maintain stock levels, support basic food preparation and ensure that all kitchen and storage areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and may involve working across different Trust kitchen locations as required.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for receiving and checking all deliveries, ensuring goods are correctly stored in accordance with food safety regulations and stock rotation procedures. Duties include monitoring delivery temperatures, checking deliveries against orders and goods received notes, placing orders through the purchasing system and undertaking regular stock takes to maintain appropriate stock levels within the department

The role involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout kitchen, stores, cold rooms and refrigeration areas. This includes cleaning heavy-duty catering equipment such as ovens, boilers and pans, operating dishwashing and pan-washing machinery, using cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, and disposing of waste in line with Trust waste management procedures. The post holder is also responsible for monitoring and recording refrigerator and freezer temperatures in accordance with Northern Care Alliance policies.

The Kitchen Porter/Stores Assistant may be required to undertake basic food preparation duties, including the preparation of sandwiches, salads and vegetables, and support food service activities when required. Responsibilities also include delivering and collecting food, equipment and supplies across hospital departments and ensuring catering services are provided efficiently and safely
