Senior Clinical Fellow in Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy/Reconstruction Surgery

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications from highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals to the role of Senior Clinical Fellow in Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy/Reconstruction Surgery.

Applicants should have grounding in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery and have obtained the FRCS or equivalent. The post aims to provide specialist training for individuals who have either completed a UK training program and possess a CCT or equivalent training program.The fellowship will provide exceptional training in current techniques in shoulder and knee reconstruction. The arthroscopy unit consists of 7 arthroscopy surgeons (1 shoulder, 2 knee and 4 shoulder/knee) allowing the fellowship to be tailored to individual needs. The Fellow will gain experience in all aspects of arthroscopic shoulder surgery as well as complex shoulder Arthroplasty. A full spectrum of soft tissue knee reconstruction is undertaken within the unit, including multi ligament reconstruction, cartilage regenerative procedures, corrective osteotomy and patella-femoral realignment/ stabilization. Unicompartment, Patellofemoral, Primary and Revision Knee replacement surgery will also be undertaken.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates, dependent on experience will have the opportunity to undertake independent supervised operating lists and attend outpatient clinics. There will be opportunity to undertake research and audit. Involvement in an ongoing or new research project is to be a major part of this post. The post holder will be expected to undertake presentations and produce publications based on their work.

The post runs in parallel with another Senior Fellow. Ward based cover is provided by junior doctors and an ANP. The department is also supported by a Consultant Physiotherapist, an ESP a Physician Associate and a part-time Theatre Assistant.

The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trusts to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The Trusts are committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal. This will include: -

• audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in department/speciality reviews
• attention to continuing professional development and to meeting the requirements for Continuing Medical Education defined by the relevant Royal College (and for which appropriate study leave support will be available)
• awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice
• the importance of responding promptly to any circumstances which may result in increased clinical risk of adverse outcome
