Job summary

This is a part time post of 35 hours per week.

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist who has enthusiasm, compassion and commitment to supporting and enabling people with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities to join our well established Community Autism and Learning Disability Service across South Tyneside.

You will work within the multi-disciplinary team and provide physiotherapy support to adults with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities. You will also work with all stakeholders, to contribute to learning and development of staff working with adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities, ensuring effective service delivery and the best possible outcomes for our service users

You must have up to date knowledge and appropriate skills which will ensure that Community Physiotherapy interventions are delivered in the way which meets the needs of the service user.

You will have an understanding of the complex needs presenting in those with Autism or learning disabilities and be able to demonstrate this with recent and on-going clinical professional development. You must have excellent communication and organisation skills.

You will manage a caseload, supervise junior staff and contribute to the development of the team and service.

This post is subject to enhanced DBS disclosure.

You will be a car driver and have access to a vehicle to meet the requirements of this post.

Main duties of the job

• To provide assessment and therapeutic services to Adults with a Learning Disability and/or Autism, or those whose needs cannot be met by mainstream services. Patients will likely have a range of complex needs in a variety of settings including day services, residential settings and the persons own home.
• To prioritise, formulate, plan, treat and discharge patients autonomously.
• Contribute to multi-disciplinary working to address the needs of clients referred to the team.
• To work collaboratively with other specialist services within the Autism and Learning Disabilities Service to meet the needs of clients.
• Support and consult on complex transitions e.g. to new home environments; leaving school; admission and discharge from inpatient services.
• To participate in Service and Pathway Developments, Audit and R&D activities.
• To participate in a programme of supervision, competency development and CPD activities and to support staff development.
• To work within guidance and framework for Safeguarding Adults / Child Protection Policies.
• To provide verbal / written reports in respect of individual clients.
• Work within clinical governance framework.
• To promote a healthy lifestyle within the client population.
• To liaise and co-ordinate with multi agencies.
• Responsible for assessing clinical risk and devising risk management plans for delegated caseload.
• Attend multi-disciplinary reviews and CPAs.
• Act as care coordinator.

• Plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate the physiotherapy service provided for adult clients with autism and/or learning disability who have a range of complex needs. The service to be delivered into a variety of settings which include day services establishments, residential settings and the persons own home; assessing, diagnosing, prioritising, treating and discharging patients autonomously.
• To work as a member of the Community Autism and Learning Disabilities Service (CALDS) contributing to multi-disciplinary working as necessary, to address the needs of adult clients referred to the team and manage a delegated caseload.
• To work collaboratively with other specialist services within CALDS to meet the Physiotherapy needs of adult clients.
• Be regularly involved in supporting and consulting on complex transitions e.g. to new home environments; leaving school; admission and discharge from inpatient services.
• To participate in Service Developments, Audit and R&D activities as directed by the Appropriate Lead.
• To actively participate in a programme of supervision, competency development and CPD activities.
