Post No. POSN005400 - Deputy Headteacher - Lliswerry Primary School

The Governing Body of Lliswerry Primary School is seeking to appoint an inspirational, forward-thinking and collaborative Deputy Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team at an exciting time in the school’s development.

Following the recent appointment of our new permanent Headteacher, this is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and talented school leader to help shape the next chapter for Lliswerry Primary School, building on our existing strengths while contributing enthusiasm, ideas and experience to our continued improvement.

Our vision is to be a centre of equity and excellence for learning and wellbeing. Our values of Belong, Empower and Aspire are at the heart of everything we do and underpin the strong sense of community within our school.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will work closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team to lead, inspire and empower our dedicated and passionate staff. You will play a key strategic role in further developing the quality of teaching and learning, raising standards and ensuring that every child is supported and challenged to flourish and achieve their potential.

Lliswerry Primary School is an English-medium, community-maintained school serving approximately 650 pupils aged 3 to 11 and is part of the Lliswerry High School cluster of primary schools serving the Lliswerry ward.

We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive school. Our extensive grounds, high-quality facilities and rich programme of learning experiences provide an excellent environment in which children can learn, grow and thrive. We place great importance on the wellbeing of our pupils, staff and families and value the strong partnerships that enrich the life of our school and wider community.

We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who:

• is an inspirational and highly motivated leader with the vision, energy and skills to help drive the school’s continued development;
• has proven leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire, empower and develop others;
• demonstrates and promotes excellence, equity and high expectations for all learners;
• is forward-thinking, reflective and innovative, with a strong understanding of high-quality teaching and learning;
• has a proven track record of improving outcomes for learners and is passionate about enabling every child to fulfil their potential;
• is committed to inclusion and wellbeing and to creating an environment in which children and adults feel valued, supported and able to succeed;
• can build positive relationships based on trust and mutual respect with pupils, families, staff, governors and the wider community;
• values collaborative leadership and will develop strong and effective partnerships within and beyond the school;
• is resilient, solution-focused and excited by the opportunity to work alongside our new Headteacher to help shape the future of Lliswerry Primary School.

In return, we can offer:

• the opportunity to join a school with strong foundations, high aspirations and an exciting future;
• a genuine opportunity to work in partnership with our new Headteacher and have a significant influence on the school’s next stage of development;
• enthusiastic children and a diverse and vibrant school community;
• a dedicated, hardworking and supportive team of staff and governors;
• a strong commitment to professional learning and leadership development;
• the opportunity to help shape the future of teaching and learning and improve outcomes for all our children; and
• a school community where the wellbeing and development of both pupils and staff are valued.

If our vision and values resonate with you and you have the leadership, experience, energy and passion to help take Lliswerry Primary School forward, we would be delighted to receive your application.

The Governing Body and Local Authority are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We would like the successful candidate to commence employment from January 2027, subject to satisfactory pre-employment and safeguarding checks, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Potential applicants are warmly invited to contact Nicky Pegington, for an informal discussion on 01633 832824.
