Governing Body of Malpas Court is a seeking to appoint an inspirational, caring and highly motivated Class Teacher to join our highly valued and well-established Speech and Language Resource Base (SLRB). We are looking for an excellent teacher who understands that communication is fundamental to learning, relationships, independence and wellbeing, and who is passionate about helping children develop the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential.


Our SLRB provides specialist provision for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) from across four local authorities: Newport, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire. The provision consists of two specialist classes, offering 16 placements. Each class is staffed by a Class Teacher and two Teaching Assistants, enabling highly personalised teaching and communication support.


We are looking for someone who:

• Is a qualified primary teacher and excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for all pupils.
• Is genuinely passionate about communication and ambitious for what children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs can achieve.
• Has experience of, expertise in, or a strong commitment to developing specialist knowledge of SLCN.
• Recognises and values all forms of communication and can adapt their teaching and communication to meet individual pupils’ needs.
• Can create a communication-rich, nurturing and appropriately challenging learning environment.
• Can plan engaging, purposeful learning experiences that are responsive to pupils’ individual needs.
• Can work effectively with and provide clear direction to Teaching Assistants, ensuring adult support is purposeful and promotes pupils’ learning and independence.
• Values collaborative working and is enthusiastic about working closely with Speech and Language Therapy, families and other professionals.
• Uses assessment effectively to identify pupils’ strengths, progress and next steps.
• Builds warm, positive and supportive relationships with pupils and their families.
• Is committed to inclusive practice, Curriculum for Wales and the principles of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018.
• Is reflective, enthusiastic and committed to their own professional development and the wider life of the school.


Previous experience of working within a specialist provision or directly with pupils with SLCN would be advantageous but is not essential. We would also welcome applications from excellent primary practitioners who have a genuine interest in speech, language and communication and a commitment to developing their specialist knowledge and practice.
